Licorice Extract
There you are❣️ I SEE YOU.
It’’s Dr. Hope giving you some tips about licorice extract.
Licorice is a small herb which has been shown to have a variety of effects on the body. Today, we are going to talk about the skin benefits of the Glycyrrhiza spp. Topical licorice extract is currently used in skin care for benefits in skin lightening, sensitive skin and to help combat inflammation.
A lot of the skin care benefits of the licorice extract is mostly due to the flavonoid consistency especially glabridin. However, it also consists of saponins and polysaccharides among many other phytochemical constituents.
The flavonoids inhibit tyrosinase which is an enzyme that is a major component of melanogenesis, a part of our system that is the target for combating pigmentation disorders. So, licorice extract has been found to be helpful in treating hyperpigmentation.
The flavonoids also provide antioxidant property, helping to combat the oxidative stress on the skin, making it great for prevention of premature skin aging and photodamage.
It has also been shown to be active against acne bacteria. It has some antimicrobial activity which makes it helpful fro treating acne prone skin.
Topical licorice extract has been studied and shown to improve certain skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, eczema, and rosacea, as well as improve skin moisturisation and prevent wrinkles and can be found in some skin care products that address those concerns.
That’s licorice extract for you!
Keep taking care of your skin, one breath at a time.
